Maintaining the privacy or personal information collected from our customers in the course of our business is a vitally important principle to St. John's Transfer (1978) Ltd. We are committed to using and disclosing personal information responsibly and to collect only that which is necessary for the purposes of providing the services that we do. The nature of our business makes it necessary to disclose personal information to United Van Lines and to other members of United Van Lines who will be servicing your shipment, as well as to other contractors whose services may be required, for example, with respect to appliance services, claims settlements and collection.
What is the information we collect?
Personal information is any information about an identifiable individual. It includes information that relates to personal characteristics i.e.(religion, politics, opinions expressed by an individual).
With respect to most of the items listed above we will not be collecting any information unless it bears some relevance to the provision of our moving and storage services.
Who we are
St. John's Transfer (1978) Ltd. is a member of United Van Lines, Canada's foremost van line. United Van Lines provides a dispatch service, claims service, collection and other services for moving companies who have contracted with it as members of the United Van Lines organization. When we register a move with United Van Lines we will be calling on the services of other members to provide assistance to our clients at destination or at origin and for the transportation of their household goods and effects between two places. In the course of getting household goods from point A to point B, various services of United Van Lines and its members assigned duties with respect to the move, will be provided with the information required to perform their functions. Within United Van Lines and the various carriers who constitute the member family, personal information of customers is divulged to employees only on a 'need to know' basis. Dispatchers and drivers would have the greatest access to this information. All are required to respect the customer's privacy. The United Van Lines privacy policy can be seen at www.uvl.ca.
What we will not do with your information
We do not sell customer information to anyone. We do not share customer information with organizations outside our member companies for any purposes not related to the diligent carrying out of the move.
Your consent and privacy choices
The fact that you have retained us to carry out your move and provided us with the information required to do so is regarded by us as an implied consent to collect the information and to use it for the purpose of effecting your move. You may withdraw your implied consent at any time by contacting us. You must understand, however, that withdrawing your consent may prevent us from providing you with the required services.
We may occasionally use your personal information to conduct surveys or to inform you of events within our company, such as change of address.
If you have an Air Miles card or participate in any other program that we are involved with, the necessary information will be provided to that organization, unless you specifically tell us not to.
You may at any time, contact us to determine what personal information we do have concerning you and to correct any errors in it and to update it.
We collect personal information only for the purpose of providing household goods moving and storage services. There are no related and secondary purposes not disclosed herein.
We retain the information only as long as it is required for legal and accounting purposes. It is then destroyed. We keep this information in locked cabinets or controlled access areas on our premises.
